High security, a stimulating work environment, and an energy-conscious design were the primary considerations in this adaptive re-use project.
A 17,500 sq. ft. windowless building along with a 4,500 sq. ft. addition and sophisticated, state-of-the-art alarm system provide necessary security.
Multiple labs are placed around a landscaped atrium, which creates visual and spatial variety for the technicians. Passive solar sun space and a masonry storage wall, two components of the atrium, contribute to the building’s energy conservation. An ice machine and ice storage pond allow for lower cooling costs by taking advantage of off-peak energy rates.
